P R O J E C T  1 -  My Community My Commitment

 

 

The task for this project is to identify an environmental-community related issue in our local community. The issues have to be genuine and any solution provided by our team must have an impact to the environment and community. We will need to visit our selected site more than once to collect variety of observation before making suggestion or proposals. In a group of 10, we were asked to observe the main environmental-community related issues, people that are affected, any particular organization directly related to the issues, the needs of people and community and etc. Our observation can be recorded in various forms such as written, video and visual.

Therefore, our group has decided to select MENGO as a third party and through them we can channel our help for this orphanage. Initially, we planned to visit an orphanage named Trinity Home, but we also wanted help and participate in the charity activity organized by MENGO. However, our first meeting with the representatives from MENGO had realized that the campaign is as similar compared to Trinity Home. We were all surprised and delighted with the fact that we are able to help both parties and complete our project smoothly.

During our first visit to Trinity Home, we saw that the place needed some cleaning up and required storage to keep some of their items. These items, which are significant in number causes the house to be untidy and also potentially hazardous for children to live in. So, we had planned to build a small storage to keep their belongings and to create a more spacious area for the kids to move and play in. Besides that, we came up with activities that involves the children such as rock painting and making mosquito traps.

From this project, we managed to create awareness of the current environmental issues locally. One of the requirements of this project is to submit a video of the things done for the community, hoping that the video will able to spread awareness to the society. Moreover, our group has induced creativity in attempting to explore the current environmental circumstances. We organized activities and provided solutions to the problems of the orphanage home. In this project, it does not only benefits the orphanage, but it also brings benefits to ourselves as we were given the opportunity to work with and for the community. Also, it has helped us to work on our communication and interpersonal skills.
